2. Organisation’s Legal Status :

“Sri K.Pitchi Reddy Educational and Welfare Society” (SPREAWS) was founded in 1994 by a group of men and women with social consciousness.

It was registered as a voluntary social service organization under Andhra Pradesh Government (A State Government in Indian Republic) Societies Registration Act of XXI of 1860 on 20.10.1994 bearing Regn.No. 544/1994.

It is also registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Central Government of India, to receive foreign donations directly from International donors/agencies. FCRA No. 010160408, Dated 20.12.2006.

4. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORGANISATION :

“Sri K.Pitchi Reddy Educational and Welfare Society” (SPREAWS) is a grassroots, Non-Governmental, Non-Profitable Voluntary Organisation. It has been working for the empowerment of Daliths, tribals and other indigenous marginalized people in Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh both in rural and urban areas. This organization has started 30 Community Based Organisations in 25 villages, which are in drought prone area and continuously providing various inputs like Leadership building, management systems, problem solving tools through training programmes and village level meetings.


5. Vision:-

To strive to improve the quality of life of the oppressed, disadvantaged and the marginalized people without discrimination of caste, creed and religion; with the implementation of Millennium Development Goals Programmes.

6. AIM:

To develop those who are disadvantaged educationally, economically, socially and culturally through self-help and self-governing collective development activities. In short "'TO HELP THEM TO HELP THEMSELVES".

Objectives :

(a) To Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger among the marginalized communities by implementing various economic development activities so that they can support themselves as well as their families,

(b) To establish and run Educational Institutions like Primary schools, High Schools, colleges, Technical Institutions, coaching centers, professional courses like Medical technician courses, Lab, Sanitation, Multi Purpose Health Workers Training, Adult Educational, child care centres, crèches, and all other useful training and professional course in order to improve the education among the poor.

(c) To strive for elimination of gender disparity in the society, and implement women and girls empowerment programmes,

(d) To strive for reducing the mortality rate among children under age of five years,

(e) To educate the women of all communities, about her self’s health care, child health care, family health care and neighbours health care system on the basis of preventive and curative measures, and thus to reduce the maternal mortality rate,

(f) To increase knowledge among people regarding the preventive methods of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases and thus make efforts to combat the spread of various diseases.

(g) To impart environmental education to the communities and enhance their capacities in the effective sustainable management of common property resources.

(h) To raise and receive donations from members and local people in our Country and
Donors of Foreign Countries in view to run the programmes for the benefits of the people in the areas, To make efforts for Developing a Global partnership for Development,

7. The Position of our organisation in the local society :

SPREAWS has got good infrastructure and outer structure in the local society. It has a responsible position in the society. It has become a part of the local people’s daily activities as their sorrows and joys. It endeavours loftily to find means and ways to find solutions to the routine grievances of the people who are in needs and problems. The organisation works directly with the people. It has direct contacts with the people. It has good-will among the people. The organisation has responsible relationships with the other organisations, committees, Groups as Women Groups i.e., Self-Help Groups, DWCRA Groups, Networks of other organisations, NGO’s and other social structures. We work in coalition altogether with mutual cooperation and coordination of the people.

8. Project Area and People :

SPREAWS is rendering its services in 55 backward villages in Kadapa District and in the slums of Kadapa City in Andhra Pradesh, India (Country). The target communities are from the lowest strata of the socio-economic-cultural milieu. The total number of people directly and indirectly benefiting from the services of the organization is 14,450.

“Handloom Weaving Training & Evening Studies Programme for Rural Poor Marginalized Women" of Rangapuram village.

Project Description :

This one year project will provide handloom weaving training for 30 poor women in Rangapuram village, Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh. The trainees include 11 widows, 3 divorcees, 3 separated, 8 extremely poor, 5 adolescent orphans. After training, the women worked under a master weaver to produce and market products such as sarees, shirting clothes, bath mats, etc., Now these women are earning good income and become self-sufficient.

Name of the Project : "Eradication of Poverty and Hunger among Rural Poor Teen Age Girls" Source of funding: The United Nations Women's Guild of Vienna (UNWG), Austria. Brief Description : Our organisation provided training to the 50 teen age girls of 5 village in the bamboo baskets making activity. After 1 month training we have distributed bamboo sticks and knives to all the girls. With this capital investment these girls undertaken bamboo baskets weaving occupation and earning Rs.5000 per month as each girl's net profit. With this income each girl and her family is relieved from poverty.

Description of the Project :

Our organisation is implementing Pre-Primary Education Programme for 25 Rural Poor Children at Khajipeta village. We have distributed Study materials to these poor children. The children are benefiting through this education programme.

Description of the project :

In Appanapalli village we supported 20 poor women weavers who are skilled in handloom weaving but due to lack of capital investment, they are not able to do the textiles weaving. Hence with the help of the generous USA donor “Open Meadows Foundation” we have distributed capital investment amount to 20 poor women weavers to purchase warp, silk, yarn and colours etc., raw materials. Now these women are able to earn sufficient income through production and selling of handloom products and living with peacefully.


***** Name of the Project "Help the Underprivileged Rural People with Safe Drinking Water" Summary of the Project : In the target villages SPREAWS team found that many women trek across open fields and up thorn-covered, rocky slopes to reach the nearest water source which may be a polluted lake or an unprotected open well meant for agricultural use. This daily task keeps the girls out of school and robs their mothers and aunts of hours of gainful employment, chronic poverty and disease inevitably follow. Through this project SPREAWS striving to solve the drinking water problems in 15 villages, we have installed 15 tube wells (Borewells) in 15 villages and thus we have achieved the aim of ‘to reduce the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation knowledge’. Our project helped the villagers lift themselves out of a persistent cycle of poverty and disease.
